Mayo community mourns death of widely-respected bus driver

The death of Michael Heneghan, Cloonee, Partry, has evoked a tremendous sense of loss in the the community.

Michael worked as a bus driver for many years and was known and respected the length and breadth of the county and further afield, such was his kind and courteous nature.

He is mourned by his loving wife Bridie, daughter Jacqueline and her husband Raymond, son Michael and his partner Binne, cherished grandchildren Martin, Darragh, Micheál and Cuán.

Michael is also sadly missed by his brothers Jack (Cloonee) and Eddie (Derrendafderg), sisters Ann (Dublin), Dette (Errew), Trish (Ballinasloe) and Barbara (England), sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, nieces, nephews, relatives, neighbours and a large circle of friends.

Deepest sympathy is extended to the Heneghan family on their loss.

Many warm tributes are being paid to Michael on social media.

One said: "There are no words to describe our sadness on hearing the news of Michael’s passing.

"We’ve so many fond memories of him in Killawalla and driving the buses over the years, - he was hard working, a true gentleman with a warm personality and great singing voice that everyone loved."

Another said: "Michael was always so friendly with a beautiful smile."

A further tribute observed: "His great smile and humour always lit up every place he went."

Requiem Mass for the repose of his soul takes place in St. Patrick's Church, Killawalla, at 1 p.m. today with burial afterwards in adjoining cemetery.

May his gentle soul rest in peace.
