Major funding boost for three Mayo community projects

A sum of €835,432 in funding has been allocated to three Mayo community projects under the Town and Village Renewal Scheme.

The news has been announced today by Minister for Social Protection Heather Humphreys and welcomed by Mayo TDs - Minister of State Alan Dillon, Minister of State Dara Calleary and Deputy Michael Ring.

The Order of Malta Building Castlebar is being restored with an investment of €474,145.

Ballycroy Community Playground has been allocated €224,139 for its refurbishment while Balla Community Centre will receive €137,148 for the replacement of the roof.

In a statement, Councillor Donna Sheridan said it is great news that that Castlebar Municipal District secured €611,293 of funding from Minister Humphreys Department for two projects.

"I am delighted to have worked with the Balla Community Centre on the 'Raise the Roof' project to replace the roof of Balla Community Centre and funding of €137,148 was secured today.

"Well done to all in Balla CRD who work very hard on this application.

"Castlebar have received the €474,145 for the restoration of the Order of Malta Unit Head Quarters in Castlebar.

"The Order of Malta do amazing work not just in the Castlebar District but across the county.

"Many thanks to Minister of State Alan Dillon and Deputy Michael Ring for their work in getting these projects over the line, thanks to David Mellett and all the team in the Castlebar Municipal District team who assist communities and groups on applications."

Councillor Sheridan added work is underway in the old Court House to turn it into a remote working hub while works will start soon on the new development of Wooldlands Park enhancement scheme as well as the new sensory garden.
