McStay's Mayo facing potential GAA 'group of death'

The winners of next Sunday's Connacht SFC final between Mayo and Galway face a potential 'group of death' in the All-Ireland group stages.

They will face either Armagh or Donegal, National League champions Derry and Westmeath in Group 1.

The losers of the Pearse Stadium clash at the weekend go into Group 2 consisting of the Leinster SFC winners (Dublin or Louth), Roscommon and Cavan.

Group 3 sees the Ulsters champions facing the Munster runners-up, Tyrone and Cork.

The Munster winners will go up against the losers of the Dublin-Louth clash, Monaghan and Meath in Group 4.

The four group winners advance to the All-Ireland SFC quarter-finals with the runners-up and third-placed teams heading for the preliminary quarter-finals.

Games begin on the weekend of May 18/19 with Hastings Insurance McHale Park set to host a major fixture.

The All-Ireland SFC draw is as follows.

Group 1: Connacht winners, Ulster runners-up, Derry and Westmeath.

Group 2: Leinster winners, Connacht runners-up, Roscommon and Cavan.

Group 3: Ulster winners, Munster runners-up, Tyrone and Cork.

Group 4: Munster winners, Leinster runners-up, Monaghan and Meath.
