Issues with pedestrian crossings in Mayo county town raised

THE pedestrian crossing near the new cemetery in Castlebar needs some tweaking.

It's not slowing down traffic, Councillor Blackie Gavin highlighted.

People coming out from the cemetery on the Newport Road are faced with motorists coming at them at high speed.

It needs readjustment, he told council management.

A crossing is also needed at Blackfort on the Newport Road, said Councillor Ger Deere, where people cross to go down to Lough Lannagh.

Coming out of Woodville, too, is a deathtrap as it is blind, he commented.

Also on crossings, Councillor Donna Sheridan said people on the Pontoon Road are asking about a pedestrian crossing near the Sion Hill junction, or maybe more road markings and something to slow traffic down.

Also in the municipal district, the need for a pedestrian crossing in Ballyheane has also been raised again by Councillor Al McDonnell, who urged progress on it.
