Get ready to toddle in Mayo with Ireland's little heroes

Barnardos is celebrating the 21st year of the Barnardos Big Toddle, a fun half-mile sponsored walk for crèche and pre-school aged children, with the support of ambassador Louise Duffy.

Over 580 toddlers have already signed up to take part in the Barnardos Big Toddle in Louise's native Mayo.

Over the last 21 years, toddlers in crèches, childcare groups, pre-schools and families from across the country have raised an incredible €4.7 million in support of Barnardos Early Years services. The campaign’s theme, Big Toddle Little Heroes, celebrates these remarkable young fundraisers who make a big impact in the lives of their peers.

Commenting, Louise Duffy said: “I have marvelled at the work of Barnardos for many years now, helping thousands of children in communities across Ireland have the childhood they deserve. So I am delighted to join them as ambassador for the 21st Big Toddle.

“As a Mum of two small girls, including one toddler, I think it's such a wonderful way to get children helping children and creating fun childhood memories for all.”

Barnardos director of fundraising, Mary Gamble, added: “Barnardos worked with over 26,000 vulnerable children and families across Ireland last year. Our Big Toddle Little Heroes raise much needed funds for our work, and we are grateful for all the families across the country who get involved in the event.

“For the last 21 years, we have seen first-hand the positive impact the support from the Barnardos Big Toddle has made. With the continued help of Ireland’s littlest fundraisers, we can reach even more vulnerable children who need us. Because childhood lasts a lifetime.”

Whether you’re a crèche, a parent or a childminder, you can organise your own Barnardos Big Toddle anytime in May or June by registering at www.barnardos.ie/bigtoddle. Your support ensures that some of the youngest and most vulnerable children in Ireland are given the best possible start in life.
