Mayo set to lose Carr for group stages after knee procedure

Mayo senior Gaelic footballer is a doubt for the remainder of the inter county season after he a knee procedure yesterday.

Carr, who was listed in the 26-man match day Mayo squad for the Connaught semi-final against Roscommon, didn’t feature in last Sunday’s Mayo’s squad for the Connaught decider in Pearse Stadium, Salthill, which they lost by a point to their arch rivals Galway.

A statement from the Mayo management confirmed that Carr underwent knee procedure, but they were hopeful he could return in a few weeks.

The statement read: “James Carr had a knee procedure following assessments by the Mayo medical team for a meniscal injury.

"He will commence rehab shortly and we look forward to his return in the coming weeks.”

With the group games in the All-Ireland series ready to kick off the weekend after next, when Mayo will play Cavan in Hastings Insurance McHale Park, it will be a race against time if Carr recovers before the group stages are finished.

Indeed, with such an injury, one would have to be doubtful that Carr will be available before Mayo’s inter county season finishes.
