Young student airlifted to Mayo hospital after being injured in Reek fall

A young student has been injured on Croagh Patrick while climbing the mountain as part of a school group.

He fell while descending the summit cone yesterday and sustained a head injury.

Members of Mayo Mountain Rescue Team (MMRT) responded to a call-out and requested assistance from Coast Guard Rescue, R118 helicopter.

The student was quickly located, treated by R118 medic and, with help from MMRT, winched aboard R118 helicopter for transport to Mayo University Hospital in Castlebar for treatment to his injuries.

Best wishes have been extended on social media to the casualty in his recovery.
