15th anniversary celebrations at south Mayo rugby club

IT will be a '15 carat crystal’ celebration night at the McWilliam Park Hotel, Claremorris, on Friday, May 24, to mark Claremorris Colts Rugby Football Club’s 15th anniversary at its annual awards dinner.

Established in 2009, Claremorris Colts RFC promotes rugby union in a fun, safe and friendly environment to children, youths and adults in Claremorris and surrounding areas.

From humble beginnings, the club now has over 360 members playing mini, youth and junior rugby in the various Connacht branch sanctioned competitions, and with great success, which will be acknowledged on the night.

Less than 10 years ago, the Colts Park playing and training pitches were developed at the Old Racecourse Grounds, just outside the town.

With Galway Bay FM Sports' Ollie Turner as master of ceremonies, a great night’s craic is assured, with an all-ages disco following the three-course meal and the trophy presentations.

The awards, sponsored by CBE, will be presented to all teenage and senior teams with crystal trophies for Player of the Year, Most Improved Player and ‘Hail, Rain or Shine’ Player of the Year. A yet to be announced special celebrity player will be guest of honour on the night, to present the prizes and oversee the auction which has a number of highly sought after items going under the hammer, including a signed Irish team rugby shirt, hotel vouchers, etc.

In looking forward to the gala night ahead, Fergal Byrne, chairman, Claremorris Colts RFC, said: “We have a lot to celebrate at our annual awards dinner, which will mark our fifteenth ‘crystal’ anniversary in a memorable way.

“Since our formation we have achieved so much with Connacht League and Cup wins as well as having a number of players on the youth and senior Connacht squads and Irish development team.

“Success on the fields of play will be acknowledged and it will be a great social occasion for the players, coaches, parents and club sponsors, who have all contributed significantly since our formation 15 years ago. All are welcome to attend and join the celebrations.”
