Mayo county town mourning death of one of life's gentlemen

The death of Vincent Ward, Cashel Park, Castlebar, and late of Castle Street, Castlebar, and Laghey, Co. Donegal, is widely mourned in the community.

Widely described as one of life's gentlemen, he died peacefully at Mayo University Hospital.

Vincent had a great love of sport, particularly horse racing and football, and he also enjoyed playing cards.

Warm tributes are being paid to the deceased on social media.

One stated: "You couldn’t ask for a better neighbour and friend. Vincent was our neighbour in 2022 in Cashel Park.

"From cutting our grass to the wonderful chats in the front lawn, Vincent was always there to lend a hand and offer advice. A true gentleman."

Another said: "Vincent was the AI man in our area for years, a gentleman who knew his football."

A further tribute said: "I knew him as a work colleague for 33 years and he was always a very kind, pleasant, polite and knowledgeable person."

He is deeply regretted by his loving wife Annette, daughters Anne and Laurena, sons Ronan and Colin, sisters Noelle and Kate, brothers Jim and John, grandchildren Darragh and Ultan, son-in-law Tony, daughter-in-law Rachael, Ronan's partner Connie, sister-in-law Rose, nephews, nieces, relatives, neighbours and friends, to whom sympathy is tendered.

Vincent will repose at his home at Cashel Park, Castlebar, this evening (Thursday) from 5.30 to 7 p.m.

Removal on Friday morning at 8.15 a.m. for Requiem Mass at 9 a.m. in the Church of the Holy Rosary, Castlebar, followed by Cremation Ceremony at 3 p.m. in Lakelands Crematorium, Co. Cavan.
