Zoning issue over new Mayo technology centre plan

MAYO County Council intends to grant permission for a new technology centre in Claremorris, but it will involve a material contravention of the county development plan.

Clar IRD is looking to construct a technology centre, comprising of offices, meeting rooms, a digital hub and cafe, at Clare, Claremorris.

This is contrary to the zoning provision in the development plan, with the site zoned for agriculture.

The council has published a report on its intention to grant permission and members of the public are invited to make submissions on the proposed material contravention.

In a planning report, the council set out its opinion that the development, which will provide for an employment hub for technology and the life sciences sector, should be granted.

The land is well located, in close proximity to Claremorris town centre, and adjoins lands zoned town centre to the far south of the site.

The site and proposed development, subject to the installation and operation of a footbridge link (from roof terrace), which forms part of the development, provides connection from the development to the street and footpath fronting Claremorris railway station and is a good example of a well-connected and permeable location, the report states.
