Eir taken to task over leaning Mayo poles

EIR has been taken to task for not dealing with fallen and leaning poles.

Health and safety will have to be called in if issues are not resolved, Councillor Donna Sheridan told the monthly Castlebar Municipal District meeting.

The councillor explained how she wrote to eir a week previously about a pole in a ditch and another about to fall down, but no one has been sent to deal with it.

There are poles half falling over and wires down months after storms, she said.

Councillor Martin McLoughlin agreed that some poles along the roads are unsafe and unsightly, citing the R331 from Castlebar to Newport, where a few poles had been straightened a few years ago.

The road from Lahardane to Pontoon is another route where they are falling over.
