Joe Faughnan will be pleased with his 1,070 first preferences.

16.25: Mark Duffy (1,300) and John O'Hara (1,353) leading the way in Ballina.

Annie May Reape best of the rest on 795, with David Alexander following on 698.

3.30: After the very early tallies, John O’Hara of Fine Gael is expected to top the poll in the Ballina Mayo Electoral Area. Independent Mark Duffy is also projected to exceed the quota, same as 2019 for both councillors.

Reports are that Cathaoirleach Michael Loftus isn’t blowing his local boxes out of the water. There are 6 seats up for grabs, and with Seamus Weir’s retirement, a new name is guaranteed.

Joe Faughnan, Independent, has been picking up first preference votes across Crossmolina, which will put him in strong contention for a seat.
