Mayo all-female choir set to host big summer concert
BellaCapella, Castlebar’s all-female choir, is performing its summer concert on Saturday next, June 15, at 7.30 p.m. (doors open at 7 p.m.) in the Christ Church, The Mall, Castlebar.
The varied summer concert programme includes songs by The Beatles, The Beachboys and ABBA, to name but a few.
BellaCapella will be joined on the night by Joanne Gallagher, the very talented local singer/songwriter.
Joanne will entertain the audience with some well known songs as well as her own compositions.
The members of BellaCapella have a wide variety of talents and they have decided to use this event as an opportunity to showcase them.
* Catherine McGlinchey will use the dulcet tones of both the clarinet and saxophone to entertain the listeners.
* Denise Gilfolye will entertain the audience with a heady mix of swing and jazz songs, accompanied by her husband Tim on piano.
* Laine Nigule-Belenusa, a pianist, will play a Latvian Waltz on Christ Church’s organ.
* Celine King is the MC for the night and will also treat the audience to some recitations.
BellaCapella will be under the direction of Sarah Lawrence, accompanied on piano by the very talented Joan Carolan.
BellaCapella is known for its wide musical performance range, from 16th Century Madrigals to Coldplay and traditional Irish songs.
The choir members enjoy taking their shared love of singing into the wider community, performing at nursing homes, charity events and fundraisers.
BellaCapella also sing at national competitions and have just returned from the recent Navan Choral Festival.
This summertime concert is to help raise much needed funds to purchase a performance piano for the choir to use for future concerts and events.

BellaCapella is always looking for new members to join. After the summer holidays the choir will resume rehearsals in Music West, Breaffy Road Retail Park, Castlebar, in early September.
