Mayo community mourns passing of former businessman John Dillon

The death has occurred of John Dillon, Ballindrehid, Ballyhaunis.

He died unexpectedly at Mayo University Hospital, surrounded by his loving family.

The deceased ran a very successful hardware store and travel agency in the town for many years.

Widely acknowledged as 'one of nature's gentlemen', he was a great advocate for the betterment of the local community.

John will be forever missed by his loving wife Cait, daughters Sheila, Joanne and Barbara, son Tom, sons-in-law Fachtna and John, daughter-in-law Caroline, grandsons Tommy, Jack, Liam, Jamie and Jack, granddaughters Erin, Rachel and Laura, brothers Paddy and Frankie, sisters Norrie, Joanie and Hilary, his great neighbours and many wonderful friends.

Deepest sympathy is extended to the bereaved family on their loss.

He was predeceased by his parents Sheila and Jack and his brother Bertie.

In the family notice announcing his passing, sincere thanks was extended to the ambulance staff, nurses, doctors and palliative care team at Mayo University Hospital.

His remains will be reposing at Donnellan's Funeral Home Clare Street, Ballyhaunis, on Saturday evening from 5 o clock until 7 o clock.

Funeral will arrive to St. Patrick's Church, Ballyhaunis, on Monday morning for Funeral Mass at 11 o clock, with burial afterwards in the local cemetery.
