Victims of Mayo road tragedy are named locally

The mother and daughter who died in a road tragedy on the N26 at Lismoran, Foxford, yesterday evening have been named locally.

They are Aisling Moore, aged 46, and eight-year-old Abbigael.

The devastating news has evoked a huge sense of loss and sorrow throughout the county and beyond.

The collision in which they died involved a car and a lorry.

Local Councillor Neil Cruise said there is heartbreak and devastation in the community as a result of the tragedy.

He said: "It has plunged the area into a sense of deep sadness. It is such a terrible tragedy and my heart goes out to the family, to whom I extend my deepest sympathy."

The driver of the lorry was transferred to Mayo University Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Gardaí are continuing their investigations into the accident.

Speaking on RTÉ Radio One's Morning Ireland, Garda Superintendent Liam Geraghty said the road where the accident occurred has a series of bends and is governed by double white lines.

"The investigation will determine how a collision took on that stretch of roads with the tragic consequences that have occurred," he explained.

In its latest statement this afternoon, the Garda Press Office has outlined: "Gardaí continue to investigate the fatal road traffic collision that occurred in Lismoran, Foxford, yesterday evening.

"The collision, which involved a car and a lorry, happened on the N26 at approximately 5.45 p.m., resulting in the deaths of Aisling Moore (46) and Abbigael Moore-Tournié (8).

"The scene has been examined and the road has since reopened to traffic. Post-mortem examinations have been arranged.

"Gardaí are continuing to appeal for any witnesses to come forward.

"Any road users who may have camera footage (including dash-cam) and were traveling on the N26 between Swinford and Foxford between 5:00 pm and 6:00 pm on Tuesday evening are asked to provide this footage to Gardaí.

"Anyone with information is asked to contact Ballina Garda Station at 096 20560, the Garda Confidential Line at 1800 666 111, or any Garda Station.

"Investigations are ongoing."
