Mayo set to take centre stage on RTÉ Radio 1 programme
The magic of Mayo's cultural identity will be celebrated on RTÉ Radio 1's The County Measure on Sunday, August 11 at 10 a.m.
Join writer and broadcaster Vincent Woods as he meanders across Mayo this weekend on RTÉ Radio 1. The County Measure uncovers the vibrant arts, history, heritage, sport, and diverse communities of the green and red county.
From sports champions on incredible Inishturk, a treasure trove of history in Ballina, to community spirit in blooming Ballyhaunis, Vincent takes a measure of all that "the yew county" has to offer.
"Mayo, this county that often feels like another world, its long, rugged coastline, sea-border and bleak, beautiful bogland seeming to each something of the spirit of resilience you find here. In old communities new. What’s the old song? ‘Home to Mayo’…And there’s some indefinable sense of home almost everywhere you set foot here.
You might indeed need five or more Measures to do justice to the county, because there’s so much to experience here, so much to discover and celebrate," says Vincent Woods.
Emer Mayock, the celebrated traditional musician from Ross, will unveil brand new music on The County Measure.
The author Mike McCormack will also feature with an exclusive piece of writing on the programme.
The County Measure is a landmark RTÉ Radio 1 series that explores the identity and communities of Ireland's 32 counties.
The County Measure: Mayo will be broadcast on Sunday August 11 at 10 a.m. on RTÉ Radio 1.
The series previously visited several counties including Antrim, Cork, Galway, and Wicklow.
