€116,000 for sports projects across Mayo in dormant accounts funding
MINISTER of State Alan Dillon has welcomed the allocation of €116,000 in dormant accounts funding through Mayo Sports Partnership.
The total funding of €116,100 includes:
€67,000 for sports hubs;
€13,000 for training and education;
€11,000 for volunteer supports;
€6,000 for Her Moves programme;
€18,600 for equality, diversity and inclusion programmes across Mayo.
The dormant accounts funding allows unclaimed funds from accounts in credit institutions to be utilised for projects focused on overcoming the barriers and challenges to participation in sport for those who are economically or educationally disadvantaged, or those affected by a disability.
The areas of focus include community sports and physical activity hubs, education and training hubs with volunteer supports as a priority and sports measures for disadvantaged communities to support the National Sports Policy and National Physical Activity Plan.
Minister Dillon said the allocation will support a range of excellent work across Mayo through Mayo Sports Partnership, who do some wonderful work. “This is a testament to the commitment to fostering inclusivity and well-being through sports and physical activities.”
Deputy Michael Ring commented: “This funding will support a range of projects designed to promote physical activity and sports for all, ensuring that everyone, regardless of their background or ability, has the opportunity to participate.
“I am particularly pleased to note the funding allocation for volunteer supports, as without the invaluable work of volunteers, most sporting organisations would not be able to succeed.”
