Improving broadband connectivity on Mayo islands
NATIONAL Broadband Ireland is progressing plans to upgrade connectivity on two Mayo islands, Inishturk and Clare Island.
Section 5 planning declarations for infrastructure on both islands for the roll-out of broadband are before Mayo County Council for consideration.
They relate to the erection of 12m stout wooden poles and radio-link dishes, including bay cabinet, fibre chamber and underground cable connections, to provide a radio link. There will be a similar link installed on the mainland.
The site location for the works on Inishturk is at Bellavaum, close to the pier, with works on Clare Island located in Glen.
The installation of poles, chambers and fibre ducts along roadside verges and to properties are part of the roll-out.
Reports submitted to the planning department indicate works are scheduled to start next March, with completion in May.
Full reports and plans are available on the Mayo County Council website.
