Passing of former Mayo soccer star Vincent Feeney is deeply regretted
The death has taken place in University Hospital Limerick of Vincent Feeney, St. Patrick's Avenue, Tipperary, and formerly of McHale Road, Castlebar.
A member of one of Mayo county town's best known and most respected families, news of his passing has evoked a tremendous sense of loss in the community.
Vincent was a member of the Castlebar Celtic team that won the Connaught Cup in 1959, 1960 and 1964 during a golden era for the club.
He also played for Mayo in the Oscar Traynor Cup and kept a close eye on soccer activities in the county, particularly Celtic Park, throughout his life, frequently attending major games involving his former club.
Vincent worked at Castlebar Bacon Factory before emigrating to England where he worked in the construction section for over 30 years.
He was a keen darts player during him his time in London and later became a supporter of St. Michael's FC after moving to reside in Tipperary town.
An affable and good-natured personality, he was held in high regard by everybody who knew.
He is deeply regretted by his heartbroken partner Teresa, daughters Caroline (Australia), Shirley (Australia), Mary (England) and Antonette (England), sons-in-law Robert, Ian and Tony, many grandchildren, brothers Martin and Michael, sister Ann McMunn, sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, nephews, nieces, relatives, neighbours and friends.
Deepest sympathy is extended to the bereaved family on their loss.
Vincent was pre-deceased by his wife Mary, son Joseph, daughter Paula, brothers John, Josie and Alfie and his sister Betty (Kerrigan).
Funeral cortége will arrive to the Church of the Holy Rosary, Castlebar, on Wednesday at 1.15 p.m. with sympathising from 1.30 p.m.
Requiem Mass will take place at 2.30 p.m. Vincent will be laid to rest afterwards in the Old Cemetery, Castlebar.
