Mayo and Galway communities mourn passing of 'true gentleman' Jack Staunton

The death of Jack Staunton, Craughwell, Co. Galway, and late of Milebush, Castlebar, has evoked a huge sense of loss and grief across the region.

A member of one of Mayo's best known and most popular business families, he died peacefully, following a courageous battle with his illness, in the wonderful care of University College Hospital Galway, surrounded by his loving family.

In his 30s, the deceased was a pharmacist by profession and contributed greatly to the community of Loughrea, where he was widely loved and respected.

He is deeply mourned by his heartbroken wife Amber, children Keeva and Arlo, his parents Patrick and Anne Staunton, brother David, sisters Anne, Vicki and Megan, mother-in-law Mary Corbett, sisters-in-law, Erin Corbett and Amy Staunton, brothers-in-law Neil (Mc Kenna), Brian (Porter), Alistair (France), Killian Corbett (wife Amanda) and Jordan Corbett (partner Ellen Francis), aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and many friends and colleagues at Brogan's Pharmacy, Loughrea, and Staunton's Pharmacies, Castlebar.

Deepest sympathy is extended to the bereaved family on their immeasurable loss.

Jack was predeceased by his sister Ruth and niece Lily Rose.

Fond tributes are being paid to the deceased on social media.

"Jack was a kind and thoughtful family man. A true gentleman.

"He will be a huge loss to all who knew him," one stated.

Another said: "He was always so kind, caring and supportive."

A further tribute stated: "Jack was always a very kind and likeable guy, with utmost professionalism."

Jack will repose at his home at Lisnakirka, Milebush, Castlebar (F23 F865), on Tuesday from 4 to 7 p.m.

Requiem Mass takes place on Wednesday morning at 11.30 a.m. in the Church of the Holy Rosary, Castlebar.

Jack will be laid to rest afterwards in the New Cemetery, Castlebar (via Main Street).
