Progress on west Mayo slip road to alleviate traffic black spot

TENDER documents that include a new slip road to alleviate a traffic black spot in Westport are nearing completion.

The new route is at the industrial park, at the top of the Golf Course Road, and will assist traffic moving on to the N5.

Issues at the top of the Golf Course Road were aired by Councillor Johnny O'Malley at a recent municipal meeting, where a white line was put in place but it is too narrow for turning for N5.

He travelled it recently with a trailer, and the choice was go over the line or up on the footpath.

The slip road would take some of the pressure off the junction.

Councillor O'Malley was told the slip road is part of the industrial estate extension, and tender documents for that are nearly ready to go out for tender for the development of the estate.

It is hoped to commence that in the middle of this year.

The existing industrial park road will continue on through the new part and on to the Golf Course Road.
