Mayo boy wins national credit union art award
RHYS Grimes, representing Westport Credit Union, has been named the national winner in the age 8 - 10 category of the 2024 Credit Union Art Competition.
Rhys’s artwork, inspired by the theme 'The Joys of Life', was celebrated for its creativity and heartfelt expression of life’s simple pleasures.
Selected from over 30,000 entries, Rhys’s success is a moment of pride for his family, the Westport community, and Westport Credit Union.
The grand final, held at Croke Park, was a special event celebrating creativity, where Rhys’s artwork was recognised alongside other national winners.
ILCU president Martin Busch applauded the talent on display, stating: “The creativity and imagination shown by participants this year are nothing short of extraordinary. These young artists have brought this year’s theme to life in ways that inspire and move us all, reminding us of the profound beauty in everyday moments.”
The Credit Union Art Competition is not just an event but a platform for young people and communities to showcase their creativity. The credit union movement has a long-standing tradition of fostering the arts and ensuring they remain a vibrant part of Irish life.
By providing opportunities to engage with art, credit unions empower young creators to express themselves and enrich the cultural fabric of their communities.
Mr. Busch continued: “Through their artwork, these talented individuals have captured the very essence of life’s greatest joys. Their creations remind us of the importance of appreciating the little things that make life special. A huge congratulations to our winners and every entrant who participated in making this competition a true celebration of creativity and community.”
