New facilities will be in place on two Mayo beaches early next year
ALL-WEATHER centres for water-based activities at Keel and Carrowmore beaches will be in place in early 2026.
The update setting out delivery to have them in situ by Q1 of next year has been welcomed by local councillors.
Councillor Peter Flynn said they are two fantastic additions to the county, and he asked that Old Head and Bertra be prioritised next for similar facilities.
Delighted to see the projects pushing on, Councillor Paul McNamara said the changing rooms and toilets would solve a problem at Keel, where there was no public toilet available up to St. Patrick's weekend, whereas now they would be there 365 days of the year.
The facility would be used by tourists and the local community, he noted.
The centres are gone to tender and probably after the holidays, in September, a contractor will be appointed and construction will start, he said.
