Castlebar Darkness Into Light - sign up for most important sunrise of the year
FOLLOWING the success of Darkness Into Light in Ireland and around the world in previous years, Pieta and the Castlebar DIL committee are pleased to announce the return of the annual event on Saturday, May 10.
Whether you are taking part to remember a loved one, honour a personal journey, show solidarity, or make sure suicide and self-harm prevention services remain available in Ireland, every step you take and every Euro you raise will help Pieta continue offering free, professional support to those at risk of suicide or self-harm.
This year's event will take place at the De la Salle Hall behind St. Gerald's College on the Newport Road on Saturday, May 10. The walk starts at 4.15 a.m., but walkers are invited to gather from 3.45 a.m. for last-minute registration, to soak up the atmosphere, and to take part in some warm-up exercises led by Functional Fitness.
CRC radio host Anne Marie Gibbons will be present to say some words of welcome and to lead the procession around town, taking the participants from the darkness of the night into the sunrise.
On completing the walk, everyone is invited back to the grounds of the De la Salle Hall for music, conversation, and free teas and coffees, made freshly by the Moving Mug and sponsored by Geraghty Fuels and the TF Royal Hotel & Theatre.
If you would like to receive the 2025 Darkness Into Light t-shirt, make sure to register online by Wednesday, April 30. However, event registration without the purchase of a t-shirt is open right up until the morning of the walk, and there will be donation buckets on-site on the day for last-minute participants.
The DIL walk is more than Pieta's most important annual fundraiser - it is a beautiful, uplifting experience you will be glad to be a part of.
