Traffic hazard an issue in refusal for 28-unit Mayo housing project
A proposal to construct 28 new homes in the centre of Balla has failed to secure planning permission.
Traffic hazard has been cited in the planning refusal by Mayo County Council.
Hatchbrook Ltd. proposed a mixed development, with four two-bedroom houses, 17 three-bedroom, and seven four-bedroom houses.
The location was well-situated adjacent to Balla town centre, enhancing its connectivity and integration with the existing community.
The planning decision stated that the development involves the creation of a new access onto a local road, L17051, with a narrow carriageway width of 4.5m, and as a result there is currently no capacity to provide pedestrian and cycle routes connecting the development to the town centre, thereby posing a threat to public safety by reason of traffic hazard. Consequently, the proposed development would endanger public safety by reason of traffic hazard and the obstruction of road users due to the movement of the extra traffic generated.
It was therefore contrary to the proper planning and sustainable development of the area.
