Woman who died in Mayo road tragedy named locally

A woman who tragically lost her life following a collision involving a lorry in Castlebar yesterday morning has been named locally as Chris O’Donnell.

There has been a huge outpouring of grief and condolences for her family since news of the tragedy emerged.

Ms. O’Donnell, who was in her 60s, was pronounced deceased at the scene on Rathbawn Road after the incident, which occurred shortly before 10 a.m. yesterday morning.

Local councillor Michael Kilcoyne, who knew Ms. O’Donnell personally, expressed his sorrow at the news: "Chris was one of those people who couldn’t do enough for you, a lovely, helpful person with a great smile.

“I knew her from her days in the Welcome Inn and later in the X-ray department of the hospital. My heart goes out to Vinny and their children."

Gardaí are appealing to witnesses who may have information regarding the incident to come forward.

Road users with camera footage, including dash-cam, who were in the area between 9.30 a.m. and 10 a.m. are urged to make it available to investigating gardaí.
