Funeral of much loved Mayo woman who died in road tragedy

THE funeral arrangements have been announced for a much loved Mayo woman who died in a tragic road traffic accident on Thursday.

Chris (Christina) O'Donnell, of Rathbawn Drive, Castlebar, and formerly of Clogher, Bohola, will be laid to rest on Wednesday.

Chris touch many people's lives across the county through her work, previously in the Welcome Inn Hotel and more recently with the HSE, with the community rallying to offer condolences and support to her family in recent days.

Her kindness, warm nature and bright smile have been particularly remembered in tributes.

Said one tribute on rip.ie: “We worked together for many years in The Welcome Inn and HSE and in recent years we met regularly at Lough Lannagh on our dog walks, with her beloved Molly always at her side. Chris had the ability to brighten everyone's day with her kind words and beautiful smile.”

Another recalled: “An elegant lady with a beautiful smile, always willing to help.”

Said another former work colleague: “I had the pleasure of working with her in MUH. She was loved by everyone who came in contact with her, so lovely and kind to everyone she met, colleagues and patients alike. A very special lady.”

Chris was predeceased by her parents Michael and Margaret, brothers-in-law Seamus, Johnny and Glen, sisters-in-law Maureen and Ruth and nephew Darren (Gallagher).

She is deeply regretted by her heartbroken husband Vinny, sons Neil and Ronan, daughter Mairead (Massey), son-in-law Pierre, daughter-in-law Mairead, grandsons Ryan, Luan and Kian, granddaughter Elise, brothers Tommy (Clonmel), Gerard (London) and Jimmy (New Jersey), sisters Rosaleen (McHugh, London), Marion (Murphy, Ballinrobe), Jacqueline (Gallagher, London) and Rita (Delaney, London), brothers-in-law Eamon, Pat, Tommy, Chris, Tom and Pat, sisters-in-law Nora, Mary, Elaine and Agnes, nephews, nieces, relatives, neighbours and friends, to whom sympathy is extended on their great loss.

She will repose in Coady’s Funeral Home, Castlebar, on Tuesday (April 29) from 4 p.m., with removal at 7 p.m. to her residence.

Removal from her residence on Wednesday morning at 10 a.m. for Requiem Mass at 11.30 a.m. in the Church of the Holy Rosary, Castlebar.

She will be laid to rest afterwards in Castlebar New Cemetery.
