Cooler conditions return to Mayo as sunshine to follow a cloudy start

After a spell of unseasonably warm weather, Mayo will see a noticeable drop in temperatures on Thursday, May 1.

The day will begin mostly cloudy, with some light rain and drizzle expected in the morning. However, clearer and sunnier weather will move in from the northwest during the afternoon.

Daytime highs will range from 12 to 17 degrees, considerably cooler than recent days. Northerly winds will remain light to moderate, with the coolest temperatures felt across the northern parts of the county.

Showers may linger into the early part of Thursday night in southern areas, but these will fade quickly.

Overnight will be mostly dry with a mix of cloud and clear spells.

Cooler air from the north will continue to push southwards, with night time lows dipping to between 5 and 11 degrees.

Nationally, high pressure is set to maintain mostly settled and dry conditions into the weekend.

While temperatures will be lower than earlier in the week, they’ll remain slightly above average for some southern areas, with more sunny spells on the way.
