Mayo county town mourns death of a much-loved personality
The death of Maura Hamrock (née Mangan), Garryduff Drive, and formerly of Newtown, Castlebar, has evoked a sense of tremendous loss in the community.
Predeceased by her loving husband Joe some years ago, she was a lovely woman who was held in high regard by everybody who knew her.
Fond tributes have been paid to Maura on social media.
Jennie Carragher, on behalf of the choir at Sacred Heart Hospital, Castlebar, stated: "We were honoured to have Maura in the choir.
"Her beautiful smile and lovely voice will be remembered always."
Michelle Lyons (UK) wrote: "She was like a second mother to us growing up and I loved the wonderful, warm welcome she had when we went through the door - it always felt like we were one of her own."
A further tribute observed: "A lovely lady and a wonderful neighbour all through the years. She will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her."
Maura is sadly missed by her daughters Mary, Geraldine and Angela, sons Paraic and Brendan, her friend and carer Vincent, sister Peggy, sons-in-law Stephen, John and Kevin, daughters-in-law Gráinne and Deirdre, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nephews, nieces, relatives, neighbours and friends.
Deepest sympathy is extended to the bereaved family on their loss.
Requiem Mass for the repose of her soul took place yesterday evening in the Church of the Holy Rosary, Castlebar.
Removal took place afterwards to the University of Galway donor programme to honour Maura’s request to aid in the silent teaching of medical students in the University of Galway.
