Bumper bank holiday weekend in store in Mayo

COMMUNITIES across Mayo are looking forward to a bumper June bank holiday weekend.

It's Mayo Day tomorrow (Saturday), and the green and red will be going global with events in towns and villages across the county as well as on the international stage over the weekend.

Castlebar, in particular, is looking forward to a very busy weekend, with local retailers, pubs and eateries getting a holiday boost with a number of big events taking place.

There's room for pink among all the green and red with the Mayo Pink Ribbon Cycle headquartered from the ATU Castlebar campus on Saturday.

Mayo Day’s grand finale concert in the TF Royal on Saturday evening will have a full house, while earlier in the day, the Big Day on the Mall youth music festival is being hosted by Music Generation Mayo.

Sunday's Connaught final derby between Mayo and Galway in Hastings Insurance MacHale Park will attract a capacity crowd.

The Mayo women's mini-marathon will hit the streets and roads around the town earlier on Sunday, with thousands of runners, walkers, family and friends coming to Castlebar, and lots of family entertainment and fun on the Mall to coincide with the event also to be enjoyed.

And that's just a taste of what's happening around the county!
