Passing of former Mayo county councillor Bridie Greavy
The death has occurred of Bridie Greavy (née Bourke), Bonniconlon, Ballina.
The news has evoked a huge sense of loss and sorrow in the community at large.
A widely popular and much-loved personality, she served as an elected member of Mayo County Council during the mid-1980s.
Fond tributes are being paid to her on social media where she was described as a "woman of immense strength, faith, and love whose presence has left an indelible mark on everyone fortunate enough to know her."
Another tribute stated: "She was the 'Matriarch of Bonniconlon' - engaged in many local organisations and a former councillor and so proud of her village. She was great company and always a pleasure to meet."
She is mourned by her loving and heartbroken sons Damien, Thomas and Fintan, her daughter Siobhán, grandchildren Daniel and Annabel, daughter-in-law Eleanor, son-in-law Dara, her sisters Maura (Ennis), Ann (London), Stasia (Corrimbla), Doris (Devon), Clare (Galway), Ita (Dublin), her nieces, nephews, brothers-in-law, sisters in law, relatives, neighbours and a large circle of friends, to whom deepest sympathy is tendered.
The deceased was mother-in-law of Mayo TD and Minister Dara Calleary.
She was predeceased by her husband John James, brothers Mike and Padraig and her sisters Joan, Peggy and Loretta, brother-in-law Paddy, sister-in- law Phyllis.
Remains reposing at her residence this evening (Monday) 5 until 8 p.m.
Remains will arrive to the Church of the Immaculate Heart of Mary, Bonniconlon, for Requiem Mass at 12 on Tuesday with burial afterwards in Bonniconlon Cemetery.
