Eight new homes in Mayo county town soon ready for allocation
EIGHT homes at Chestnut Grove in Castlebar should be allocated to new tenants in the coming weeks.
Mayo County Council took over delivery of these properties from housing agency Tuath.
Their completion was held up over works in relation to a wall but those works are now complete and the issue of planning compliance has been addressed.
Councillors, in a report, were told the transfer of ownership to Mayo County Council is being finalised and the properties should be available to the municipal district for allocation in the coming weeks.
Councillor Harry Barrett has urged that they would get people into them as quickly as possible.
Councillor Donna Sheridan has again criticised the level of delivery by approved housing bodies generally.
Last year they provided 'zero' houses in the county, she said.
