Elderly man loses life in Mayo island tragedy

Gardaí and emergency services have attended the scene of a single-vehicle fatal road traffic collision that occurred at Glen, Clare Island.

A car entered the water at approximately 1 p.m. yesterday and the driver, a man aged in his 80s, was pronounced deceased at the scene.

His body was removed from the scene to Mayo University Hospital for a post mortem examination.

A Forensic Collision Investigator carried out an examination of the scene.
