Celebrate National Bike Week in Mayo
NATIONAL Bike Week (May 10 to 18) is rolling back into Mayo, and you're invited to join in the cycling fun.
Mayo Sports Partnership, along with the Bike Week Steering Committee, presents a lineup of exciting events across the county this week.
From relaxed family cycles to hands-on bike maintenance workshops, and inclusive Learn to Cycle sessions designed especially for kids with disabilities, there's something for every member of the family. And let's not forget the ever-popular lunchtime school cycles happening this year in Westport, Castlebar, Foxford, Balla, Cong, Barnacarroll and Ballina.
All events are grassroots efforts, put together with love by local community groups and clubs, Mayo Sports Partnership and the Bike Week Steering Committee. Also, Mayo County Council Road Safety, Smarter Travel Offices, An Taisce Green Schools, gardaí, community councils, and cycling groups all over Mayo.
Mayo Sports Partnership's Deirdre Donnelly is encouraging everyone of all ages and abilities to take part. She said: “We are delighted to see schools and communities throughout the county get in behind this worthwhile campaign which has been in operation since 2010. Hopefully the weather will be good and we will all be able to get up and out on our bikes.”
Bike Week isn't just about riding - it's about celebrating the joy and benefits of cycling. With hundreds of events happening nationwide, from family cycles to heritage rides, maintenance workshops, and beginner-friendly learn-to-cycle events, there's something for everyone. All 31 local authority areas are getting in on the action, with events planned by local authorities and sports partnerships.
“Mayo Sports Partnership is delighted to once again work with stakeholders in delivering a comprehensive programme throughout the county. It just would not be possible without the input from our partners, volunteers, schools, clubs, communities and indeed our own staff members. Happy Cycling to All,” said Lyndon Jones, chair, Mayo Sports Partnership.
