€3.3 million confirmed for Mayo housing adaptation scheme

Minister Dara Calleary has announced that Mayo County Council has been allocated €3.3 million for the Housing Adaptation Grant Scheme.

He elaborated: “The Housing Adaptation Grant Scheme is a lifeline for many families and individuals.

"The ESRI projections indicate that the numbers of people aged over 65 will more than double to 1.3 million people by 2040.

"As more people live longer lives, they will want to stay healthy and independent, live in their own homes and communities and keep to a minimum their use of in-patient and out-patient hospital services.

“Last year the Department made some significant changes to the scheme, raising the maximum level of funding for disabled people to €40,000, raising the maximum level of funding for the Housing Aid for Older People Scheme to €10,700 and the Mobility Grant Scheme to €8,000.

This is a very successful scheme, particularly here in Mayo, and I compliment Mayo County Council for their administering of it.

“I am happy to receive this allocation for the county – an increase of over €500,000 on 2024 and welcome people to contact my office with any queries they may have in relation to the application process.”
