Miriam O’Callaghan is guest speaker for ‘The Pink Afternoon’ in Mayo
The much-anticipated ladies’ lunch, The Pink Afternoon, in aid of the National Breast Cancer Research Institute and proudly sponsored by DeCare Dental Insurance, will take place at The Lodge at Ashford Castle on Sunday, June 8.
This glamorous event is one of the charity’s major annual fundraisers, with proceeds helping to support the breast cancer research team at the Lambe Institute, University of Galway, under the leadership of Professor Michael Kerin.
This year’s guest speaker is one of Ireland’s most respected television and radio presenters, Miriam O’Callaghan.
A multiple award-winning broadcast journalist, Miriam began her career as a young lawyer in Dublin before moving into television.
She started out at ITV, working on This Is Your Life, and later joined the BBC in 1987, where she produced shows such as Kilroy and Family Matters.
In 1989, she was headhunted by BBC Newsnight, where she spent nearly a decade as a reporter.
In 1996, Miriam returned to Ireland to become the face of RTÉ’s flagship current affairs programme, Prime Time. She will share her inspiring story with attendees on the day.
The afternoon begins at 12 noon with a sparkling drinks reception, where guests can also enjoy browsing a selection of pop-up shops.
A gourmet lunch prepared by the award-winning culinary team at The Lodge will follow, topped off with live music from The LOL’s, ensuring a fun-filled day that carries on into the evening.
