History-making Kilmore win Mayo Women's Masters League

Kilmore Ladies made history last night when officially declared winners of the inaugural Mayo Women's Masters League.

The competition has been a massive success, taken on with great enthusiasm by the seven teams involved.

But Kilmore were the runaway success story, claiming the title undefeated with 10 games now played.

The Erris women have the league's top scorer in Annie Lynskey and she rounded off an evening of celebration for the club with a hat-trick in last night's game against Claremorris at Castlebar Celtic, host venue for the competition.

Claremorris benefitted from an OG in the first half, with Emma Mullin, who has enjoyed a very good season and is currently second from the top on the scoring table, tagging on another in the second half.

But Kilmore came as champions and kept their record intact, Louise Maloney with a late strike to made absolutely sure of the full points.

Mayo Women's League treasurer Diana Hopkins was on hand at Celtic Park to present the cup to Elizabeth Coyle.

In last night's other games, a local derby between Castlebar Celtic and Ballyvary Blue Bombers saw the Hoops running out 4-0 winners.

Just a single Siobhan Conlon goal separated the sides at the break, but early scores from Regina Byrne and Linda Coyne in the second half pushed Celtic into the ascendancy, with Byrne wrapping up the scoring just before full-time.

Fahy Rovers B enjoyed a 7-0 win over Manulla. Sonya Maher scored four of their final total, with Tina Conway, Maureen Durkan and Aisling McNamara also contributing to the score sheet.
