Top Mayo club manager rallies support for Celtic ahead of Connacht Cup final
Castlebar Celtic take on Mervue United on Sunday afternoon to reclaim their Connacht Cup title.
Manager Stevie Gavin has called on ‘Hoops supporters to make their way to Headford on Sunday for the 3 p.m. kick-off to help Celtic over the line against a ‘formidable’ Mervue United outfit.
In a statement on Castlebar Celtic’s social media, Gavin wrote: “On behalf of myself, Dec [Flynn] and all the players, I would just like to thank you all for your unwavering and unrivalled support over the past few years.
"The bond between this group of players and supporters is unique, tangible and you really are our 12th man.
“As we face into a huge challenge this weekend against a formidable side in Mervue, I am calling on the hooped army to get out in big numbers and turn Headford green and white and really bring the noise to help this group of young men step into history,” the successful Super League boss said.
Celtic aim for their 11th Connacht Cup title and to win the cup back-to-back for only the third time in the club's 101-year history.
