Footpath project will improve safety in south Mayo town
PLANS for the construction of new footpaths on both sides of the Kilmaine Road across the existing N84 fire station bridge in Ballinrobe have been approved.
Proposing that a Part 8 planning application be approved, Councillor Michael Burke noted they had been 'a long time waiting' for this project.
The works would make the area safer, for traffic but particularly people walking, and they are urgently needed, he said.
Councillor Patsy O'Brien said he had tabled a motion about the location 20 years ago, and it had been promised 'year after year'.
“It's badly wanted,” he said, welcoming the plans before them at a municipal meeting.
Councillor Damien Ryan said this is an essential link, and a project they had been long advocating for.
The members were told they'd be looking at 2026 for construction.
