2025 SpeedGolf Irish Open heads to Mayo
SPEEDGOLF Events Worldwide has announced the 2025 SpeedGolf Irish Open, taking place at scenic Castlebar Golf Club on Saturday, June 7.
The event will bring together elite athletes, rising stars and local enthusiasts for a unique sporting experience that combines pace, precision and passion.
Leading the field is Ireland’s own Rob Hogan, known globally as SpeedGolfRob – a two-time world champion and one of the sport’s most respected competitors. He will be joined by an exciting international lineup including Robin Smith (New Zealand), James McMaster (Australia), Jamie Taylor (England), Olivier Guisset (Belgium), Gatjeak Gew (South Sudan) and Adam Lorton (USA). Several top Irish speedgolfers and endurance athletes will also take part, with new players especially encouraged to get involved.
This year’s Open introduces a new time-adjusted format: players will subtract one minute for every birdie (or better) and add one minute for each double bogey (or worse). This dynamic scoring system rewards strategic risk-taking while keeping the competition fair and fast-paced.
Rob Hogan, event organiser and two-time champion, said: “Bringing the Irish Open back to Castlebar is a real honour. This course has already proven to be a fantastic stage for SpeedGolf, and 2025 is shaping up to be our biggest and best event yet.
“We’re combining elite sport with genuine community spirit - and we want everyone, from seasoned pros to first-time spectators, to be part of it.”
The event will also feature a Legends Tour showdown between fan favourite Ireland’s Pat Brennan and US celebrated Gary 'Big Bill' Sobczak, a competitive women’s field led by Bev Fentiman (UK) and Britta Ushkamp (Germany), and a junior showcase designed to highlight the next generation of SpeedGolf talent and reflect SpeedGolf’s global growth.
In a major development for the sport, the tournament will be covered by a US-based award-winning production team, filming a documentary project aiming for international distribution. More details on this exciting broadcast partnership will be announced closer to the event.
The 2025 SpeedGolf Irish Open is proudly sponsored by Poison Darts, a California-based high-performance apparel brand committed to sustainable innovation, and Hard Metal, a long-time Irish supporter based in Bray, Co. Wicklow. Their combined support ensures a substantial prize fund, a community raffle, and high-energy entertainment for all attendees.
Spectator entry is €10, with all registered attendees entered into a raffle for a motorised golf cart. Gates open at 6.30 a.m. Spectators must register via Eventbrite to gain entry and be eligible for the golf cart raffle. Early arrival is encouraged to enjoy the full morning programme and to support local players. Refreshments, live commentary, and family-friendly activities will be available throughout the morning.
“We’re thrilled to bring the SpeedGolf Irish Open to Castlebar,” said Robert Hurley of SpeedGolf Events Worldwide. “It’s not just about sport - it’s about community, innovation, and celebrating athletes of all ages and backgrounds.
“Castlebar Golf Club will be the perfect stage for that.”
