Families urged to report cases of drug-related intimidation in Mayo
ELEVEN incidents of drug-related intimidation have been reported to gardaí in Mayo over the last five years.
However, it is known to be more prevalent than that and families are urged to come forward to the gardaí for help.
Chief Superintendent Ronan McMahon said people have fears about coming forward for various reasons but he has moved to reassure them.
The gardaí have specially appointed personnel and he urged people, particularly parents, to come forward. They will be dealt with confidentially and should not be afraid to come forward.
“It is an issue and I feel it is considerably under-reported,” he told a meeting of Mayo County Council.
Councillor Michael Loftus said intimidation is becoming rampant and he encouraged people to get in touch about it.
