'Summer Melodies Live' at the Linenhall in Mayo county town
A night of music with Mayo Youth Orchestra and Castlebar Concert Band will be staged in the Linenhall Arts Centre, Castlebar, on Friday night next, May 23, starting at 8 p.m.
Billed as 'Summer Melodies Live', it promises to be a wonderfully entertaining concert to satisfy a wide range of musical tastes.
Tickets (€15) can be purchased online in advance at thelinenhall.com and family discounts are available.
All proceeds are in aid of the orchestra's trip to North Macedonia in July to participate in an international music festival.
Under the direction of Dr. Anne Moriarty, the orchestra will showcase a selection from the programme it is preparing for its performances in the city of Ohrid.
Castlebar Concert Band has also been busy planning for a major event of its own in July, the annual Brass Band Festival in Clonakilty, Co. Cork.
Musical director Debbie Clarke has announced an exciting programme for the May 23 event with tributes to the work of Elvis, Abba and Taylor Swift among the pieces.
The band is also set to impress with its renditions of 'O'Carolan's Concerto', Queen's 'Don't Stop Me Now', the exhilarating 'Founders March' and 'Hootenanny'.
The event represents an opportunity to support local musical talent.
