Celebrate World Orienteering Week in grounds of Mayo museum
FAMILIES across Mayo are invited to celebrate World Orienteering Week (WOW) with a free orienteering open day at the National Museum of Ireland in Turlough Park, Castlebar, on Saturday, May 24.
The orienteering open day takes place from 11 a.m. to 2.30 p.m. and all are welcome to attend. Admission is free and no booking is required. The event is organised in partnership with ATU Castlebar campus.
Visitors will have the opportunity to meet with members of the ATU Castlebar campus team and learn about map reading and navigation skills. Participants can then put their newly learned skills to the test around a challenging orienteering course through the biodiverse grounds of Turlough Park.
The activity is suitable for all ages and fitness levels.
Members of the public are invited to drop-in at any time between 11 a.m. and 2.30 p.m. to take part. Get an introduction from an orienteering expert on the day with all of the information and resources you need to try this fun activity and celebrate World Orienteering Week.
WOW is an annual event organised by the International Orienteering Federation to increase awareness and participation in orienteering worldwide.
It is being celebrated this year from May 17 to 25. Last year, more than 100,000 people took part in WOW events across 73 countries.
The WOW event at the National Museum in Turlough Park is a family friendly activity, in association with ATU Castlebar campus. Admission is free and no booking is required. See www.museum.ie to plan your visit.
As this is an outdoor event, participants are advised to wear suitable footwear and clothing.
