Legendary Mayo public house reopening after long closure
Bucko's Pub, Linenhall Street, Castlebar, is reopening its doors after being closed since March 2024.
Martin O’Sullivan has been granted a licence to operate the premises as Sully’s Bar and Bistro.
The transfer of the licence was approved during a sitting of Castlebar Court yesterday.
The licence was formerly held by Pat Moran before returning to the proprietor Viewpoint Limited, the court was told.
Feeney Solicitors Limited, who represented Mr. O’Sullivan, said difficulties in obtaining a fire cert have been overcome.
Mr. O’Sullivan informed Judge Vincent Deane that had 25 years’ experience in the trade and had a full understanding of licencing laws.
Judge Deane granted the licence and wished him the very best of luck.
A native of Tipperary, Mr. O'Sullivan has been resident of Castlebar for the past 25 years.
He is widely popular in the community and he is wished well with the venture.
The premises was redeveloped to an exceptionally high standard in the early 2000s and spans approximately 3,000 square feet across three floors, offering a versatile and modern layout ideal for a thriving hospitality business.
The ground floor features the main bar area, a welcoming space that leads to basement facilities including toilets and a keg room.
The first floor presents a second bar complete with a fully fitted commercial kitchen, perfect for a restaurant setup.
Patrons can also enjoy a smoking and external seating area with a picturesque view of the town river, adding to the venue’s charm and appeal.
The original owner of the premises was Bucko Sheridan who kept a cow at the rear of the property which was marched through the bar every evening en route to a stable nearby, much to the amusement of customers!
The story has passed into local folklore.
