Mayo Widows/Widowers and Bereaved Partners' Support Group enjoy inspiring visit

THE new Mayo Widows/Widowers and Bereaved Partners' Support Group has expressed thanks to former TD and minister Michael Ring, who attended their May meeting in his private capacity and as Mayo Person of the Year, offering invaluable advice on accessing grants and navigating local supports through Mayo County Council and other community resources.

Now in its fifth month, the group continues to grow, with 43 active members from across Mayo and beyond.

Despite the bank holiday weekend, 19 members joined the monthly meeting at Breaffy House Hotel on May 5 for a rich and empowering discussion. Mr. Ring’s warmth, compassion and practical guidance were deeply appreciated by all in attendance.

Looking ahead, the group is delighted to welcome motivational speaker and author Sharon Dooley from Ballinasloe at their next meeting on Sunday, June 2, also at Breaffy House Hotel from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Sharon will share insights from her book on self-love and how to rediscover a life after loss - a theme that resonates strongly with many members, particularly those who feel they’ve lost a sense of identity or authority within their families since the passing of their spouse or partner.

In July, they group hope to be joined by Minister for Social Protection Dara Calleary, who will listen to members’ experiences and discuss access to entitlements and support schemes.

The group remains open to anyone who has lost a spouse or partner, regardless of age. For those interested in joining, please email Edel McAndrew at edelmcandrew@gmail.com or call (087) 2460411 for further details.
