Proposed Mayo greenway moving to Part 8 planning in September

THE proposed route for the Belclare to Murrisk greenway is due to come before councillors for consideration by way of a Part 8 planning application in September.

However, Councillor Brendan Mulroy is not happy that details of the preferred route have not been shared with elected members and the community in advance of this.

He raised the matter at the monthly municipal district meeting today, asking when the preferred route would be back before them, and if it would be progressing by the Part 8 process or through An Bord Pleanála.

Municipal head Seamus Ó Mongáin said it is proposed to come as a Part 8 planning application in September, and the preferred route will be in that.

However, Councillor Mulroy said members had been told the preferred route would be back before them before it moved to this stage of the planning process.

When there is no information becoming public, he 'starts to worry', he stated.

It was suggested that a workshop on it could be requested, but Councillor Mulroy said he didn't want that. He wants it before them publicly.

He was unhappy that the landowners and public representatives will not have information until September.

Councillor Johnny O'Malley issued an advisory to TII not to CPO the lands for the proposed greenway route, warning there will be 'trouble' if they do.
