TG4 to shine spotlight on Mayo folk and bluegrass festival
The renowned Westport Folk and Bluegrass Festival is set to take centre stage in a brand-new television series commissioned by TG4.
The national broadcaster has announced a collaboration with production company Power Pictures to create a four-part documentary exploring the story of Bluegrass music in Ireland.
Filming for the series will take place during this year’s festival, which runs from June 5 to 8, 2025, and will capture the unique energy and musical richness of the event.
A full production crew will be on-site throughout the weekend, recording live performances, informal sessions, and the lively atmosphere that has made the festival a staple on Ireland’s music calendar.
The series aims to tell the story of Bluegrass in Ireland, showcasing its influences, evolution, and its close relationship with traditional Irish music.
Interviews with performing artists, festival-goers, and organisers will offer viewers a rare behind-the-scenes look at the passion and people behind this vibrant musical movement.
Now in its 19th year, the Westport Folk and Bluegrass Festival continues to attract world-class performers and audiences from across Ireland and beyond.
The upcoming TV series is expected to further elevate the festival’s profile, celebrating shared musical traditions and the enduring appeal of live acoustic music.
Festival-goers are encouraged to come along and be part of this special occasion. The series will air on TG4 later in the year.
