Tributes to popular Mayo council staff member on his passing

Warm tributes are being paid to Joseph (Joe) Moran, Knockaraha, Ballintubber, a member of the staff of Mayo County Council and previously Westport Town Council, whose death has taken place.

Members of the West Mayo Municipal District joined this morning in extending a vote of sympathy to the family of the deceased.

A former elected member of Westport Town Council Dermot Langan stated: "It is so very sad to hear of Joe's untimely passing. I have very fond memories of his gentlemanly nature."

Work colleagues of Joe described him as 'a lovely man to work with, always helpful and nice'.

"He always treated people with respect, a true gentleman," another tribute stated.

A further tribute observed: "Joe was a lovely, quiet and charismatic gentleman with a kind and intelligent wit.

"He was always so friendly and approachable and ever willing to impart his vast knowledge.

"He was held in the highest esteem by all of us privileged to know and work with him."

He died peacefully yesterday at Galway University Hospital surrounded by his family.

Predeceased by his parents Tommy and Joan, he is deeply regretted by his brothers Patrick, Martin and Frank, sisters Roseanne (Scardaune) and Margaret (Newport).

Joe will also be sadly missed by his nephew Keith, nieces Ellen and Amy, brothers-in-law Kevin O'Connor and Michael Mulchrone, his work colleagues in Mayo County Council, relatives, neighbours and a wide circle of friends.

Deepest sympathy is extended to the bereaved family on their loss.
