Housing plans update for derelict site in Mayo town centre

A new design team has been appointed to development of 12 housing units at an existing derelict site at Ellison Street in Castlebar.

There is expected to be progress on the proposal over the coming weeks.

Meanwhile, Castlebar Municipal District is set to give the go-ahead to phase three of the social housing development at Lios Na Circe, Milebush, consisting of 37 new homes.

Some progress is also being made in respect of an original proposal by the Peter McVerry Trust to provide eight accommodation units at Ellison Street in the county town.

Mayo County Council has received correspondence from the Peter McVerry Trust that all proposals for delivery of housing units, with which PMVT was engaged for CAS purchase, construction, and social leasing, should revert to the local authority, to enable to take up directly or in tandem with an alternative approved housing body.
