Schools in Mayo to receive €2.3m for minor works and ICT upgrades
Schools across Mayo are set to benefit from a combined €2.3 million in funding for minor building works and ICT infrastructure, according to Mayo Fine Gael TD and Minister of State Alan Dillon.
Minister Dillon confirmed that the funding includes €1.2 million for minor works in primary and special education schools and €1.1 million for ICT and digital equipment across primary, special and post-primary schools
“Schools are at the heart of our communities throughout Mayo,” said Minister Dillon. “This investment will ensure that our schools – and, most importantly, our students – continue to be supported in safe, modern and well-equipped learning environments.”
He emphasised the importance of flexibility in how schools use the funding. “Every school has unique needs. That’s why it’s vital that they have the autonomy to decide how best to use their minor works funding to address local priorities – whether that’s improving safety, upgrading facilities, or enhancing the learning environment.”
Minister Dillon also highlighted the role of technology in education. “The €1.1 million in ICT funding will help schools embed digital tools into teaching, learning and assessment. It’s essential that students develop the digital skills they need to thrive in today’s fast-changing world.”
He acknowledged the support of his colleague, Minister for Education and Youth, Helen McEntee, in delivering this funding.
Minister Dillon concluded: “This investment is part of a wider €65 million national package to support schools across the country. It will help ensure that school buildings remain safe and welcoming, while also equipping students with the tools they need to succeed in a digital future.”
